FALLING LEAVES HAT

Contemporary Design Meets Traditional Technique

The Falling Leaves Hat grew out of a desire to see what would happen if I combined the lovely marled North Avenue yarn from Plied Yarns with my love of stranded colorwork. Grabbing two skeins at a trunk show, this is what emerged.

Based on the design “Alder” from the brilliant Andera Rangle in the Alterknit Stich Dictionary, the hat is worked from the bottom up, in the round. It features corrugated ribbing which is often found in Shetland colorwork. The decreases for the crown carry the pattern to the closing point.

CHANUKAH SOCKS 2020

Celebrate in Style

In the Jewish calendar Chanukah is not the big holiday equivalent of Christmas, but who doesn't like celebratory socks. In 2020, West Yorkshire Spinners' holiday yarn, Silent Night seemed perfect. This is is a free pattern, offered in one size only. The pattern can be downloaded here

REVERSALS

Celebrating Women Who Overcame

Reversals is a collection of four stranded colorwork fingerless mitts drawn from motifs in Andrea Rangle’s stitch dictionary AlterKnit. The last few years have taught me that, sometimes, when facing a reversal in life, you need to change what you put forward. That idea inspired this collection in which each pattern creates two complementary mitts by reversing the dark and light colors in the chart (of course you can knit them both the same too).

Each of the patterns is named for a woman in my family, who when faced with a reversal, changed what she put forward and was able to move forward.

THE SHARKS OF OCTOBER

Playful Optimism

When it looked like the 2019 Washington Nationals might have a chance to make the playoffs, I was optimistic. The hope that they would  still be playing deep into October led me to create these fingerless mitts. As any fan knows, sharks (particularly the baby kind) helped turn this team around. Congratulations to the winners of the 2019 World Series. The pattern can be downloaded here
