I am the kind of knitter who is happy to turn out a baby sweater for a friend, one of my children’s friends. or the grandbaby of a friend. But because the queue of all the things I want to knit is so long; I need the baby sweater to be a quick knit with a well-written pattern. In other words, it should be “the perfect baby sweater pattern.”
And now, I think I have found it. Rachel Atkinson (Daughter of a Shepherd) whose wool I adore, has a lovely pattern “Pop” (non-Ravelry link) (Ravelry link) that ticks the boxes>
Quick: this is written for a DK weight at a gauge of 22 stitches and 30 rows in 4 inches).
Well-written: the pattern is clear and error free. The instructions explain what to do and why.
Size range: Pop comes in 6 sizes which is very useful as babies sometimes are born out of sweater season. So you can plan ahead.
Added features: This is a basic pattern and can be a bit of a blank canvas if you want to add stripes or some intarsia. It might even take a patch pocket.
This Pop is knit two shades of Manos del Uruguay, Sami in the colors Mediterraneo and Spirulina (via Fibre Space in Alexandria, VA). The buttons are from a new to my neighborhood shop, The Merry Pin.
